Turning to Jesus

Here are two guys I witnessed to in Riga one Thursday night. They were walking by my and I asked, "Can I ask you some questions?" They said, "About what?" and I said "About eternity" Then they said, "Sure, let's go sit at a park bench" After sharing the gospel with them, one of them, named Roma, was ready to turn to Jesus, and wanted me to lead him in a prayer of repentance, he didn't want to forget it so he wrote it down on a map he had with him. I was so excited that he was ready to turn from sin and trust the Lord to save him and set him free from his addictions. Here is a video from that night...

Riga, Latvia - turning to Jesus - Brenten Powers

Yesterday I got back from a youth camp where I helped with worship leading and a couple Bible studies. Wednesday night about 20 kids came forward to receive Christ. I was able to connect with a few and encourage them. I hope to continue influencing three who live in Ogre, one in Ikskile and four in Jaunjelgava. Pray for those who were sincere about following Christ, that they would continue to become disciples and overcome worldly influences in their lives after camp.

Hallelujah - Latvian youth version

At youth camp we rewrote the verses to "Hallelujah" for a special performance on our last night of camp. I wrote verse 2 to suit the new faith of the boys singing behind me and they wrote the Latvian verse with Liena Pandare.

HALLELUJAH - YOUTH CAMP (c) June 2008.

I heard that there was a secret chord,
that David played and it pleased the Lord,
but you don't really care for music, do ya?

It goes like this the fourth the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift,
the prophet king is singing hallelujah!

Hallelujah (4x)

It takes guts to sing a song
In front of friends when they think I'm wrong,
but I don't really care what they think anyway.

All I want is to please the Lord,
Everything else I can't afford,
It's the word of God so let me sing it to ya.

Hallelujah (4x)

Bībelē teikts tev un man
Dzīvot būs mums kā Pestītājam,
Bet bez Jēzus vieni to nespējam.

Tik Jēzū spēks un dzīvība
Ja Vinņa vienmēr paliekam
Tad neuzveiks mūs grēks vairs - Aleluja!

I took some pictures from the youth camp I am at but can't upload them yet. So, here are some pics from the Virginia teamš blog.

Here is a link to the blog that the Virginia team is updating.

Today I taught one of the Bible studies about the sinfulness of man. Please pray that these youth would be convicted of their sin and desire to turn from it. Thanks!

At Camp in Malpils

Hey everyone,
I've been busy getting ready for this youth camp, and now I am here in Malpils where the camp has just begun. I am leading worship in Latvian and English on guitar with 2 other singers. Please pray for the teens who have come, that they may recieve the word of God this week. This is the 4th year of that this camp has taken place, put on by Trinity baptist church of Ogre and a Presbyterian church from Virginia. It lasts until Friday but hopefully there will be lasting fruit. Most of these teens come from troubled backgrounds, broken homes and have addictions to cigarettes and other unhealthy lifestyles, but this week is a chance for them to find hope, life, peace, love, truth in Christ. The theme is "How to get from Latvia to Heaven"and the theme song for the week is "Thy word is a lamp unto me feet and Light unto my path". Stay tuned to this blog for pictures and a link to the visiting teamš blog. I gotta go now, and get ready for the next event, "Bible village orientation" which involves each team visiting different stations where they will learn something about the places in the Bible. Todays specific message is that the Bible is Godš Word. Thank you for praying for the youth of Latvia and for me as I am away from my wife and kids to serve. By the way, a handful of the kids are ones that came to our VBS last year and professed faith in Christ, so it will be good opportunity to encourage and build them up again.

Happy Fathers Day

Fun Family Days 2008 - Brenten Powers

I hope you all enjoyed fathers day. I sure did. Lena and Caleb made me a cake for after lunch and we went out to dinner and ate ceasar salad and barbeque chicken wings. Then after the kids went to bed I finally put together some clips from our weekly family outings.
